November 29, 2009, 1st Sunday of Advent

Jeremiah 33:14-16. Behold the days are coming says the Lord, when I will cause a branch to spring forth for justice and righteousness.

Thessalonians: 3:9-13. Paul prays day and night for the Thessalonians, that the Father of Jesus Christ will render them unblameable; may they learn how to live and please God.

Luke 21: 25-36. Various signs show that the Man of Heaven is coming with power and great glory.

December 6, 2009, 2nd Sunday of Advent

Malachi 3: 1-4. Who can endure the coming of the messenger who is like a refiner’s fire?

Philippians 1: 3-11. I am sure that the one who began a good work in your will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ, and I pray that you may be blameless for that day.

Luke 3: 1-6. The world of God came to John, who preached a baptism of repentance, crying “Make straight the Lord’s paths.”

December 13, 2009, 3rd Sunday of Advent

Zephaniah 3:14-20. Rejoice, O daughter of Zion; the Lord God is in your midst and will exult over you as on a day of festival.

Philippians 4: 4-7. Rejoice in the Lord always; the Lord is at hand.  In everything let your supplications be known and the peace of God will keep you in Jesus Christ.

Luke 3: 7-18. John tells the multitude the axe is laid to the root of the tree and that one mightier than he will follow.

December 20, 2009, 4th Sunday of Advent

Micah 5: 2-5a. But you, O Bethlehem, who are a little to be among the clans of Judah, from you will come one who is to be ruler in Israel.

Hebrews 10: 5-10. Christ abolishes sacrifices and establishes instead the will of God.

Luke 1: 39-45. Mary greets Elizabeth in the hill country; the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaps for joy and Mary prays, “My soul magnifies the Lord.”

Christmastide

December 24 & 25, 2009, Nativity of our Lord I

Isaiah 9:2-7. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light, for to us a child is born.

Titus 2:11-14. The grace of God has appeared to purify for himself a chosen people.

Luke 2: 1-20. In the days of the decree of Caesar Augustus, Mary, Joseph’s betrothed, gave birth to her first-born son.  And the angels told the shepherds about the baby.

December 24 & 25, 2009, Nativity of our Lord II

Isaiah 62: 6-12. The Lord has set up watchmen and will never again let harm befall his holy people.

Titus 3: 4-7. But when the goodness of God our Savior appeared he saved us not because of us but by virtue of his own mercy.

Luke 2: (1-7), 8-20. In the days of he decree of Caesar Augustus, Mary, Joseph’s betrothed, gave birth to here first-born son.  And the angels told the shepherds about the baby.

December 24 & 25, 2009, Nativity of our Lord III

Isaiah 52: 7-10. How beautiful on the mountains…for Lord has comforted him people and the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Hebrews 1:1-4, (5-12). In many ways God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a son who is superior to the angels.

John 1: 1-14. In the beginning was the Word, the true light that enlightens everyone, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

December 27, 2009, the 1st Sunday after Christmas Day

Samuel 2: 18-20, 26. The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord, and his mother made him a little robe each year. And Samuel grew in stature.

Colossians 3: 12-17. Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, compassion, kindliness, lowliness, meekness, and let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, giving thanks to the Father through him.

Luke 2: 41-52. Mary and Joseph found the twelve year old Jesus questioning the teachers in the temple, and he went back to Nazareth with them and increased in wisdom, age, and grace.
