Greetings!

On behalf of the editorial and production team of The Living Pulpit, I send you peace and grace through our Lord. Our April-June 2012 issue on the raising of Jesus Christ received an enthusiastic reception, adding to the celebration of the hope of resurrection. It seems the spirit of Easter never wears out, for each Sunday brings a testimony to the everlasting life in the Lord.

Now this third installment of July-September 2012 is devoted to a theme close to our heart. It is something we gladly give and receive. Many call it care. Again, in this issue, biblical scholars and theologians have joined preachers and practitioners of Bible ministries, so that we may have yet another opportunity for that which has sustained us since the creation of human beings.

We are creatures of care, who literally spend a good part of our lives providing care for our loved ones. Many of us have the blessing of watching our children grow, mature, and become our companions in life. Weathering their stormy youthful years, little children become men and women, doing more than their parents could ever have imagined. They all have a component of care in their careers. Though we all are frail human beings, the capacity to care has added a special meaning to our lives.

Care-readiness may be in our genes, but it is through our preachers that we have learned how to care intentionally. They taught us that care was not a chore that drains us. They had us realize that care was a privilege that God gave us, so that we could become more by giving of ourselves.

In the life of the church, many have chosen to become specialists in giving care and teaching how to care. Some of them are known as pastoral theologians. In this issue, many of these care specialists have joined us to reflect upon what it means to care. In these pages, we join the voice of an ancient poet, who said, “In Your temple, God, we meditate upon Your faithful care” (Ps 48:9 JPS).

P.S. The six-month trial period has been received with a great deal of enthusiasm that warms our heart. In an effort to nurture the momentum, we are extending the free period for another three months. Invite friends and colleagues to this shared ministry for the gospel of the kingdom of God.
