The Reverend Brandt L. Montgomery is the Associate Rector and All School Chaplain of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette, Louisiana. Prior to his ministry at Ascension, Brandt was the Curate at Canterbury Episcopal Chapel and Student Center at the University of Alabama from 2012-2014. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Montevallo in 2007 and a Master of Divinity (cum laude) from The General Theological Seminary in 2012. Brandt is currently undertaking Doctor of Ministry studies at the University of the South, his proposed thesis is titled "A Glorious Vision: Anglo-Catholicism and Race—Past, Present, and Future."

This article adds a refreshing narrative to the advent season by exploring doubting Thomas whose feast day is four days before the birth of Christ. The reader will receive a strong reminder of the power of hope while in the throes of doubt. As Jesus meets Thomas in his grieving, we are encouraged to be bold enough to rejoice even while waiting through imperfect times.

That grace can be found in the New Testament is an issue of no debate, for the fourth Gospel declares, “The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (Jn. 1:17). But the assertion that there is grace throughout the Old Testament is one that still generates considerable debate within certain Christian communities and theological circles.
