Dr. Allen Boesak was a leader in the United Democratic Front and the African National Congress in the struggle against apartheid. He has been a pastor and community activist most of his adult life. He served as the president of the 80 million member World Alliance of Reformed Churches in 1982. He is one of the originators of black liberation theology in South Africa and a scholar on Martin Luther King Jr. Currently, Boesak is co-pastor of the Piketberg congregation of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa, serving as vice moderator of the General Synod of the denomination and as moderator of the URCSA Cape Synod. He is active as a patron of the Bell Valley Initiative, an organization working with HIV/AIDS affected persons and orphans in the Helderberg Valley.

In the Good News of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John the resurrection is the greatest news. It is the most exciting piece in the Gospels. In our church calendar Easter occupies a special place and we live towards it and from it. At Easter the church sings: the Lord has risen! At Easter the church confesses: where, o death, is your victory? Where, o death, is your sting?
