This artwork is based on the account reported in all four canonical gospels in which Jesus feeds a great multitude with five loaves and two fish. Artist Choi offers realism that portrays fish and bread, the common staples for all of that time, but the only food for the poor; Jesus’ miracle transforms these morsels into the messianic feast. The canvas’ color-rich abstract background invites viewers to wonder whether it represents the earth or the sea or heaven or another world. The work’s title, “Seeds of Blessing” hints at the abundance that Jesus made possible. These “seeds” grow their blessings into enough for all who come together as well as for those who are yet to arrive at the feast.
