A Church in a Town by Piety Choi.
(24"x18"; Mixed Media on Canvas)

To this sizable item I gave the title of "A Church in a Town." I was inspired by
a vision of the church that gathers the people who are scattered in their situation. The church provides the cohesiveness that sustains the town. Located in the midst of the homes of the town, the church also provides a sense of secure space with the spiritual boundary that defines and guides their life. They are scattered, not only because they have their own place of work, but also because it is a constant human struggle to have the heart find the center in life. When we embrace the life of the church, we find ourselves formed as part of the body of Christ with Jesus at the very center. In it, we finally discover safe space and peace, without which we would not have known what it means to rejoice in life. I imagined going back to the safety of Sunday School, a place of serenity for the children of God. —Piety Choi
