I was inspired to do this painting titled “Yearning” when I was walking through a field in Pennsylvania densely populated by reeds. The exuberance of the waving tall grass took me to the words of Jesus, who said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matt 9:37-38; Luke 10:2 NRSV). I could well imagine how much these reeds had to endure to grow so gracefully. The field displays the same kind of patient waiting shared by the farmers.—Piety Choi
