Choi - The Face and Faces

The Face and the Faces by Piety Choi.
(mixed media; original size five feet by seven feet with thirty-five 12" by 12" pieces)

This painting has been displayed in a number of venues including the 2011 Biennial Exhibit of Women Artists' Works in Incheon, Korea. It is designed to be seen at a distance to present the viewers with an image of a large human face. As one approaches the piece, he or she would find in it images of many faces of women and men, family and friends—all created in God's image. At a distance some might say that they can see the image of Jesus Christ, and they may realize that the body of Christ contains many believers. Others may see their own faces, and again a closer look reveals the faces of many—those in their community or their nation, or their loved ones who contributed to their upbringing. A greater entity is made manifest through many smaller beings.
